The Importance Of "Dincharya” In Ayurveda

To remain healthy and disease-free one needs to detoxify their mind soul and body.

As it is rightly said, your daily habits define you, the same comes to play in maintaining your health and well-being. “Dincharya” which simply means daily routine in Sanskrit, plays a significant role in following a healthy lifestyle as per Ayurveda. One needs to follow a basic ayurvedic daily routine in order to detoxify and nourish each and every part of their body. To remain healthy and disease-free one needs to detoxify their mind soul and body.

Following a Dincharya helps in detoxify the body, which is the most natural way to remove toxins that constantly build up from the environment, processed food, alcohol, stress, medication, and other harmful chemicals. An overload of toxins in our body can make us feel sluggish, tired, sick, overwhelmed, and generally flat and unmotivated. If you feel like this often, it’s important to bring a change in your day-to-day habits, your “Dincharya.”

Follow this simple 4 step Ayurvedic daily routine:

1) Tongue Scraping

Our tongue is an individual health blueprint. It is a fantastic gauge of one’s health, in particular. When we look in the mirror, we usually observe that our tongue is coated with a white, brown, yellow, or green substance which can mean one has poor digestion, a sluggish liver or there are toxins in our bowel. If we do not get rid of the toxins from our tongues, they will keep recirculating in our bodies.

To avoid such condition first thing to be done in the morning is:

· Take out your tongue

· Place the scraper as far back on the tongue as comfortable

· Gently pull the scraper from the back to the front 5-6 times and then three times each either side

· Make sure you wash your scraper afterward and replace it every six months.

2) Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic remedy that cures a wide variety of ailments because it eliminates toxins but also infuses essential fatty acids straight into our blood and into one’s Body. Follow these steps for oil pulling:

· To be done after tongue scraping

· First, spit out anything in one’s mouth

· Then take 1 tablespoon of cold-pressed sesame or coconut oil and hold it in your mouth

· Slowly swish it around, pulling it through your teeth

· Do this for at least 10 minutes, but preferably 20

· Spit it out and rinse your mouth well

· Scrape your tongue and brush your teeth

· Drink your morning drink or one cup of lukewarm water afterward

NOTE: The oil should be a thin white foam when you finally spit it out. If it is still clear or yellow, one hasn’t done it for long enough.

3) Morning Drink

Boosting your digestive fire will help expel dangerous toxins from one’s digestive system. One of the easiest and most simple ways to do this is by drinking this home remedy every morning, after scraping your tongue. This will help stimulates one’s internal organs. This drink flushes out any additional toxins and once we eliminate these, it results in the cleansing of the digestive system in process.

1 tsp of grated or minced ginger (fresh)

1/4 tsp cinnamon powder

One cup of hot water

Method: Mix it well and drink.

4) Dry-Brush daily

Dry brush one’s skin before our daily morning shower using raw silk gloves or an actual brush designed for dry - brushing. Dry brushing is the process of exfoliating the skin before bathing. This accomplishes two primary goals:

a) It removes dead layers of skin so the body can more efficiently excrete toxic material. Our dead skin cells are a type of body waste and sloughing them off removes this waste

b) It targets the lymphatic system, which is directly beneath the skin. You are helping to direct the biochemical sewage through the channels and eventually into the lymph nodes, where it can be eliminated.

Apart from these steps, we also recommend, removing pitta or kapha, aama toxins daily first thing in the morning by pressing epiglottis with two fingers slightly which would lead to cough which should be spitted. Thus, clearing toxins from deep down daily will help feel better.

This basic changes in your daily routine, will bring in a lot of good wealth and make you feel healthy and relaxed.
